In 6th grade we will study ancient civilizations, and how the earliest humans lived. You will be asked to read, think, and write "Like a Historian." We will look closely at what is known and how we know it, and you will decide for yourself what really happened. We will journey from the earliest civilizations to some of the most powerful and infamous civilizations the world has ever seen. We will study: Early Humans, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Ancient Hebrews, Ancient China, Ancient India, Greece, and Rome! You will leave this year with a better understanding of how people began our world's first civilizations, and how we use many of the same organizations today. You will also understand how historians work and why their work is still so important today.
Students will be participating in a year-long project where they use the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (or SDGs) as a lens to view the history content standards. Through this project students will be able to assign real-world meaning to the concepts of the SDGs, and understand how the past has influenced current and future problems facing our world.
